Maria Andreea Deleanu

Andreea Deleanu is a PhD Candidate at the University of Surrey, UK, specializing in Media Accessibility under the supervision of Professor Sabine Braun. Her project focuses on repurposing Audio Description (AD), Audio Introduction (AI) and Audio Narrative (AN) for a specific target group, that of people with cognitive an neuro diversity, to guide their comprehension of fictional audiovisual products through Easy-to-Understand (E2U) audio cues while also promoting immersion when accessing audiovisual narrative.

She holds an MA in Conference Interpreting from the University of Trieste, Italy and has specialized as a healthcare interpreter and audiovisual translator.

Under the supervision of Professor Elisa Perego (University of Trieste) and Professor Anna Matamala (Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona) she has collaborated with stakeholders in the realm of Media Accessibility and Social Inclusion to create content for the EU project EASIT (Easy Access for Social Inclusion Training). Andreea has focused on the application of E2U language in AD to improve access for users with visual impairment.

She hopes to make a difference in the lives of people with different linguistic and cognitive needs by tapping into the potential of audiovisual translation for these secondary-target users to fully enjoy their right to access and cultural participation.
