Lukasz Dutka

Łukasz Dutka is a lecturer at the Institute of Applied Linguistics at the University of Warsaw, Poland, involved in training subtitlers, respeakers and accessibility professionals. He was responsible for semi-live subtitling of news broadcasts at the Polish public broadcaster. He then became a member of team, which pioneered live subtitling through respeaking in Poland with first accessible events in 2013, first interlingual live subtitling in 2015 and first television broadcast with live subtitling in 2017. In 2020, together with Monika Szczygielska, he set up a live subtitling unit for Polsat, the biggest Polish private broadcaster. As a member of the ILSA Project team, he worked on developing the open online course for live interlingual subtitlers. Łukasz is one of the founders of AVT Masterclass, an online subtitling academy, and a director of the Global Alliance of Speech-to-Text Captioning, a non-profit based in Washington, USA, which champions all forms of subtitling.
