Tiina Holopainen is a University Teacher in Translation Studies at the University of Turku, with an extensive background as a translator/subtitler for over two decades. She teaches theoretical and practical courses in both Translation Studies at large and Audiovisual Translation/Subtitling, specifically. Her research focuses on the theory of Audiovisual Translation, specifically, in holistic models for the study of subtitling as a process and product. Further areas of interest include machine translation and translation as a profession.
Tiina is a member of the Finnish Association of Translators and Interpreters (SKTL). She acted in the Board of the European Association for Studies in Screen Translation (ESIST) between 2016 and 2021. At her School, she plays an active role in promoting collaboration between the academia, the various stakeholder groups in the language and translation industry, and the society, at large.
