Prof. Em. Aline Remael was Department Chair and Professor of Translation Theory, Interpreting and Audiovisual Translation at the Department of Applied Linguistics/Translators and Interpreters at the University of Antwerp until 2019. She is a founding member of OPEN, Expertise Centre for Accessible Culture and Media, and an associate member of TricS, the department’s research group. Her main research interests and publications are in AVT/media accessibility, including audio description (AD), and live subtitling with speech recognition. She is currently supervising an Antwerp University-funded project on accessible theatre. She is an associate partner in the European accessibility project ILSA, and an EU-funded guest professor at the Technical University of Ventspils, Latvia (academic year 2019-2020). She is a member of the editorial board of several academic TS journals and other TS publication series. She is the chair of the EST Young Scholar Prize Committee, a former board member of EST, a member of the TransMedia Research Group, and a board member of the European Network of Public Service Interpreting (ENPSIT). In 2018 she received the ESIST Jan Ivarsson Award for invaluable services to the field of audiovisual translation.
