Hannah Silvester is a third year PhD Candidate in Translation Studies at the University of Glasgow, UK. Having previously obtained an MA in Screen Translation at the University of Sheffield, Hannah is now researching the subtitling of non-standard language. More specifically, she is examining translation strategies for the subtitling of French banlieue film. Her research project draws on approaches from translation studies and linguistics, and involves interviewing professional subtitlers working with banlieue film. Hannah also teaches extensively on the MSc in Translation Studies at the University of Glasgow. She convenes the MSc module: Subtitling Film & TV, for which she offers technical workshops on WinCAPS Qu4ntum, in addition to delivering lectures on translation studies theory as part of the core course.
