Jan-Louis Kruger

Jan-Louis Kruger is director of the School of Languages on the Vaal Triangle Campus of North-West University in South Africa. He holds a PhD in English on the translation of narrative point of view. He teaches Language Practice (specialising in AVT) as well as English Literature. He has been involved in research on AVT for the past 10 years and has completed projects on the state of subtitling in South Africa, subtitler training for South African conditions, and subtitling and multilingualism. Furthermore, he has been involved in the development of subtitler training for the North-West University. He has also been involved in research on narrative perspective and AVT as well as educational uses of AVT. His current projects include a special issue on AD guest edited with Pilar Orero for Perspectives, Studies in Translatology, due for publication in 2010; eyetracking research in the field of audio narration; and a corpus study on narrative and AD. He is the chairperson of the AVT committee of FIT.
