Henrik Gottlieb

Henrik Gottlieb is associate professor and head of the Center for Translation Studies & Lexicography at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. He was born 1953 and worked as a subtitler for Danmarks Radio 1980-1992. Cand.mag. in English and Applied Linguistics in 1990, PhD in Translation Studies 1997. From 2006 chief editor of the international journal Perspectives. Studies in Translatology.

Since 1991 he has lectured worldwide on screen translation, and he spent January-July 2008 as an exchange scholar at North West University in South Africa.

Among his publications are his prize thesis ”Tekstning – Synkron billedmedieoversættelse ” (1991), "Subtitles, Translation & Idioms" (1997), "Titles on Subtitling 1929-1999" (Bibliography, 2002), ” Untertitel: Das Visualisieren filmischen Dialogs“ (2002), "Screen Translation: Eight Studies in Subtitling, Dubbing and Voice-over" (2005), “Anglicisms and Translation” (2005), “Multidimensional Translation” (2006), ”Películas antiguas, subtítulos nuevos, ¿más anglicismos?” (2007) and “Subtitling against the current: Danish concepts, English minds” (2008).

Apart from screen translation, his fields of research include corpus linguistics, lexicography and language contact studies, particularly English influence on other languages.
