Alexander Gerber

Alexander Gerber, Information Scientist, is Managing Partner of the innokomm Research Center for Science & Innovation Communication (Berlin, Germany). As head of Marketing & Communications at Europe’s largest association for ICT research (Fraunhofer) Mr. Gerber has developed the Science-to-Business channel InnoVisions with the objective of accelerating and focusing technology transfer and commercialisation of scientific results. As a columnist, journalist and director he has been covering science and innovation issues in a wide range of publications and audio-visual projects.

Mr. Gerber advocates against a one-way approach to science communication; he argues that both science and industrial R&D need to engage more intensively in an Open Innovation dialogue, e.g. by exploiting interactive technologies. He calls for the media to support public readiness for technological change, instead of overemphasising the risks of technology at the expense of its opportunities.
