Jean-François Cornu has been a professional translator since 1985, specialising in film and TV translation (subtitling), as well as translating books on cinema and the arts. As a subtitler, he has worked with the major subtitling companies in Paris, and for Australian TV channel SBS in Sydney. As a book translator, he mostly works with the Pompidou Centre publishing department and German publishing company Taschen.
He has also been teaching general translation and film studies for more than fifteen years in French universities (Nantes, Lille 3, Rennes 2). He holds a Ph.D. in Film Studies, with a thesis dedicated to historical and aesthetic issues of dubbing and subtitling. He has contributed articles on audiovisual translation to a number of publications on the subject.
He is currently working both as a professional translator and a senior lecturer in Translation at Université Rennes 2.
