Clara Allardyce

Clara is a native British Sign Language User with BSL Level 4 qualification. She has worked in the media field since 1996 mainly as an in-vision signer translating programmes, information materials and podcasts into British Sign Language. In the last 4 years she has worked as a Production Manager for Red Bee Media’s Signing Team which provides In-Vision Signing services to a variety of clients. She was involved in setting up a new recognised qualification for Deaf people to become sign language interpreters which will commence later this year in Britain. Currently there are only interpreting courses for hearing people because of the limitation in the modules with voice translation.

Media experience also includes being a presenter of a BBC series for deaf children and Deaf News for BBC ‘See Hear’, a magazine programme for the deaf and hard of hearing. Previous experiences include working as an interpreting agency co-ordinator, supervising in-house interpreters and teaching British Sign Language at all levels. She has also worked as classroom assistant in a Deaf school and has a passion for developing deaf children’s language.
